Christmas Baby

One of my goals for 2014 was to learn more about photography.  When I started entering card making challenges and opened up my own blog, I could tell that some people's cards just looked better.  They weren't necessarily the most creative, or well done, but they had star quality right on the screen.  It took some experimenting and rigging up my own DIY lightbox to realize it was the photography.  Manipulating the lighting made what I held in my hand, actually look like what I saw on the screen.

When my baby was born, my husband invested in a DSLR camera.  We had one previously, but it was stolen in our move back to the States from England.  When we finally replaced it, I decided to stop fearing it and start using it.  I saw gorgeous, brightly lit photos of babies all over pinterest and wanted to duplicate it on my own.

So far, everything I've learned has been trial and error and what I can piece together from youtube and blog posts.  My splurge this year is to take two certification courses, one in digital photography and another in Photoshop.  I'm pretty excited.  :-)  Classes are self-paced, so I'm hoping to squeeze some time in between Eli's naps....

For a reference point, here are some pics of my little man I took for Christmas.  Starting from zero :-) I can't wait to see what I learn from my courses so I can improve and overwhelm my family with a zillion more pictures of Eli!  LOL!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
